Drought continues

OK, I really need to find another userpic as the lightning bolt is meaningless with the weather we've had the last few months. Last Thursday central North Carolina was placed into the "Exceptional Drought" category--the highest state there is. So, how does mother nature respond to this? We get 0.11" of rain last Friday and several days of clouds taunting us with the potential for rain followed by sunshine. We're expecting record breaking heat today in the 90's (we should be in the mid 70's for highs). Durham is getting ready to go to stage 4 of water restrictions.

The landscape looks..., alien. Several trees in the area have just flat out died as if someone set them on fire and were left standing. This includes several pine trees as well which I have not seen before. I've never see so many dead trees along I-40 either. Other trees are finally turning their leaves now, but I'm guessing this is mostly due to the lack of water.

Tropical season will soon be over, so there goes the chances of getting a tropical system in here too.

I would happily have pushed this morning's rainstorm southwards if I could. Alas, couldn't find the magic wand...
