The Seven Things Meme

If you comment on this post, I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

I replied to kybearfuzz's journal and he chose the following:

ACNA stands for Audi Club of North America. I participate in performance driving schools. Yes, I own a BMW, but I'm a member of ACNA so that I can get more track time at VIR. Lots of good people in that organization even though they have an Audi. :p

Civil Air Patrol (abbrev. CAP) is also known as the Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. It's a civilian branch of the USAF with three primary missions: Emergency Services (air search and rescue and disaster relief), Cadet Programs (kids 12-18) and Aerospace Education. We wear the USAF uniform and follow their customs and courtesies. However, it's purely volunteer and civilian in nature. We get paid nothing. I mostly work with Cadet Programs (and I was a former cadet myself). My current grade is Major and will be Lt Col as soon as I complete some logistics/paperwork. It's because of CAP that I occasionally shave the beard (can't have beard with USAF style uniform).

Gran Turismo is a fantastic driving game for the PS2. This goes more towards my fun for performance driving. The courses in GT4 are very accurate with rather stunning graphics. Even the Nurburgring in Germany is replicated with all 100+ turns, changing elevations and graffiti too. Of course, the game is even better now as GT5 will soon be released for the PS3 (which I don't have).

Karting is a lot of fun and a great alternative to real performance driving, and much cheaper. There are a few good go-karting places around there including an indoor version down in Garner about 30 minutes away. I'm long overdue for that and need to take some friends with me soon.

Snowboarding is my ultimate sport. I love winters and snow. Put me on a snowboard on a fresh, powder covered mountain and I'm in heaven. All of my troubles melt away in minutes and I'm in another world. I try to make multiple trips out west like Colorado and Utah. I'm the kind of boarder that will venture into the double-diamonds and well into the trees. I wish I had more friends to go snowboarding with. This is another reason why I've considered moving out west.

Solaris is one of the operating systems (Solaris is made by Sun) I work on in my system administration job along with Linux.

VIR is short for VIRgina International Raceway and one of the best race tracks around here. It's only about an hour away and they host quite a few performance driving schools (BMWCCA and ACNA). Locals love this track and the staff there at VIR are great people. At a BMWCCA annual event that was held here a few years ago, people came out to the track and they were very jealous that we had this right in our backyard.

Any questions?

I was a Civil Air Patrol cadet when I was a junior in high school. London Squadron (007)! I only made it to Sgt (and I don't even recall what Sgt it was) and had to leave it when I got a part-time job as a senior and worked every Monday night when we were meeting.

Oh, excellent! A squadron with a unit number of 007? I guess every state has one. :) I made it up to C/2nd Lt before I became a senior member nad headed off to college. One of my best friends in Texas is in CAP and was one of the IC's for Katrina relief.

I enjoy working with the cadets and I've been to countless encampments for may years now serving all sorts of staff positions.

Look forward to learning more about your passion for snowboarding!

I'm doing this for someone else already, so if you pick two interests from my profile, I'll do them as a "bonus"
