A day on the Virginia Creeper

Dana (cruise director), zacwolfdotcom, Charles, David, Turner, Steven and Tim descended on ascended to Whitetop Mountain to bike on the Virginia Creeper.

The day started out at 0630 to wake up, breakfast at 0700, be at the bike shop by 0800 to get whisked up to the top of the mountain and hit the trail..., all 34 miles of it. The first half was 17 miles was down hill to Damascus where we stopped for lunch. Oh, yeah, did I mention it was close to 30°F? Fortunately I brought lots of layers and that kept me warm. The other 17 miles were uphill, but not steep, with a warmer temperature. Total cycling time was 2h 38m, but we were on the trail from 0900 until 1430 (others feel behind and on the trail until 1500).

We were all very sore and tired after this very long trip. We climbed into the hot tub to soothe our aches and got a decent dinner later on. We're so looking forward to the extra hour tonight (daylight saving time ends tonight). In spite of it all, we're all ready to do it again.

The scenery was beautiful with some color still left in the trees, the reflections in the water nearby although the water level was very low due to the drought. No camera pics as I left my camera in the hotel room, but several other took pictures and hope to see them soon.
