New MacBook rocks

After a month, we finally got our new MacBooks in today. These are the 13" white versions with 120GB drive and 2GB of RAM. I just could not justify spending $400 tax dollars (each) for the black and we did not need a DVD burner.

Since they just arrived they came with Leopard pre-installed. This 13" is bigger than I thought it would be compared to my old 12" PowerBook G4. Mainly because it's a wide screen now, but the keyboard is larger too. Keyboard is the same size as I use with my iMac workstations. I even used the migration tool for the first time and it only took about an hour to transfer everything via FireWire. I logged in and every element of my old environment was preserved--background, power settings, browser cache, all applications..., all there. I have run into some minor problems with some older software (only meant for PPC--not Intel), but that was expected.

All of this and it came just in time for the LISA Conference next week--big bonus. :)

I just put Leopard on my computer last night. So far, not really noticing all that much in terms of function, just in colors. I wish they'd had not greyed the title bars, since they're hard for me to read.

I so heart my Mac. It's the best purchase I ever made.

I can't get Disk Utility to repair permissions anymore and I can't get Screen Sharing to work. It may be my firewall in my Router, though. It's caused problems with iChat before. It just sucks because Screen Sharing was one of the features I most looked forward to using.

Somehow I believe it's all connected to the ARDA.app agent thing thru a SUID error. :-(

I had some weirdness getting the upgrade DVD to recognize that I did, in fact, have 10.4.x on my computer before. After using the DU, it started to work. I hope that my hard drive isn't slowly eating itself....

Ug. That would suck and would probably serve me right for being an early adopter. :-(

BUT I HAVE TIME MACHINE!

Just don't wreck time, ok? I don't want to wake up in a world dominated by Ned Flanders. I like my frontal lobes not in jars....

No re-Neducation for you? Chicken.

Plus, it's just a wish, not a toaster.

I have a 12" PB and Mark has a new MacBook. I can tell a HUGE difference from using one to the other. I love mine because it's so small and sits on the desks at school so well, but his is so fast and really very powerful for it's size. However, I may never fall out of love with my iMac.

I really like those MacBooks; not sure if I'll get one of those eventually or the smaller MacBook Pro. Sounds like a great transition.

Last night I upgraded to Leopard and I do like the use of Spaces and Coverflow. Not too keen on some of the visual aspects (the Dock) but overall everything is great!

I didn't like the dock, either, now I'm used to it.

Congratulations on the new MacBooks, Joe! The new round of Apple notebooks are a delight to use. I didn't realize how slow my PowerBook G4 was until I upgraded to a MacBookPro. I've only found a couple of applications that won't open with Leopard, but nothing to regret the OS upgrade.

Have a wonderful time at the LISA Conference!

Warm regards,

Cory
