Dead silence and arrival at Tampa

Hard to believe I've been up for 8 hours already.

Yesterday afternoon I spent the evening with the parents. We went to Five Guys for some yummy burgers and fries and Goodberry's to top it off. I knew I still needed to get ready for trip and left early in the evening.

I was in bed by 2300 and woke up for a bit around 0130. I was stunned at how incredible quiet it was. I could not hear a thing outside. No dull roar from the nearby roads, no planes, no nothing. It's not like there is normally noise there, but it was such a difference last night that I could hear 1 or 2 watches on my dresser ticking. I guess this one of the times where it becomes so quiet on the roads.

Got up at 0400 this morning and was pretty much ready to go. Got out the door by 0445 and made it to RDU by 0500. I think I saw about 10 cars during the entire trip--it was great! I've never seen the roads so quiet including the interstate.

Checked-in, but had to check a bag. I realized last night about the "less than 3oz. rule" in your carry-on, so I had to have a checked bag to take things like deodorant and toothpaste! Sheesh. Oh, well, it allowed me to take some more stuff to be prepared for whatever the weather brought. Flights on both legs were about 95% full (which surprised me for the 0600 departure). Lots of loud kids, but it was bearable. Got to Tampa a little before 1000, got the rental car (Ford Mustang) and in room by 1100. Not a bad room here at Hyatt Place near the airport where I have a large sectional couch, king size bed, free wireless and a 42" wide screen TV (with multiple inputs right on the side).

So, I'm just chilling out for now until the reunion starts at 1400. If I get bored before then I'll do some sightseeing along Tampa Bay and maybe some pictures. Family is only 4 miles away. I'm not sure how much my energy will last into this evening.

Merry Christmas as well...
And hey, if you get the chance, try the Columbia Restaurant in the Ybor City district of Tampa (the original one from the early 1900's. AWESOME Spanish/Cuban food. It's worth the trip!
