More post-holiday spending

The drive I was using as my Time Machine drive has died. :( It turns on and the drive spins up, but but iMac does not see it anymore. It was only 120GB to start with and a few years old with a cheap enclosure. It was not enough capacity to start with and had to cut back on what was allowed to be backed up. Got a new 500GB G-Tech drive that should be extremely quiet, yet stays cool. Apple had the best price, so I got it from them. Everyone is having a hell of a time keeping them in stock ever since Leopard was released.

OK, now I'm finally going to bed. G'night...

*gasp* This is my biggest fear. Mark is going to kill me but I'm buying a 500GB hard drive.

I keep wondering if Time Machine is going to kill a lot of external drives. I have to wonder if they're designed to actually function like that. :-(

Please don't die on me EHD. (Which I pronounce Ed.) Tee hee.

This is an old Ultra drive enclosure. It was cheap and I got it about 2-3 years ago. Have not used it much. It was sitting on the shelf doing nothing so I plugged it in when I upgraded to Leopard.

I turn it off everytime I use the computer as the fan is too loud and then flip it back on when I go to bed to let it update. I did not try the USB 2.0 interface yet to see if that still works. Could be just the interface in the enclosure that's bad, or it could be the drive is bad. Either way, I needed a much larger hard drive.

I still use Mozy to backup photos and other critical documents so I have a copy away from home in case of a disaster.

I use Backup and they're on a separate external.
