Winter storm warning for NC

National Weather Service just called for 2-4" of snow for our area from noon until midnight on Saturday. Expecting to start out as rain in the morning, arctic air pours in and all changes to snow by noon and continues for the rest of the day. Lows the next night will be in the teens.

For my northern friends..., yeah, I know. Big deal. However, it's a huge mess for this area that gets any snow like this. You see, we have hardly any snow plows at all. Just to scrape the interstates and primary roads that have significant snowfall takes DAYS. They do lay down a salt brine mixture before a storm, but I doubt that will help with all the rain we'll get before the snow starts. Central North Carolina is just not equipped to deal with a storm like this (and we've had much worse).

Even though I have AWD, I will not get on the roads until everyone else is off of them. People here have not a clue of what it takes to drive around in snow and ice. I prefer to stay away from the crazies, thankyouverymuch.

We'll see if the storm holds together on its track and I certainly hope it does. I want to get out and take some pictures of the snow.

Okdokies, now I understand why you opted for the AWD.

I forgot about the God Snow Removal Method popular in your neck of the woods.

In Chicago, we have snow removal down to a science and fully staffed.

Stay safe & warm! I've discovered that drivers up here aren't so vastly better - somewhat, yes, but there's plenty of idiots on the roads here in the north too.

But the difference in snow removal, yeah, that's true. And back in Dec., I discovered what a huge system they have up in Montreal, to plow & truck the snow to central places (ie. empty lots).

Back in the 50/60s, they used to dump Chicago's into the river. Now, they dump around open city land and lots too.

NC will probably be sharing the wealth, no doubt. Great. I'm traveling into NYC tomorrow and back on Sunday.

Good luck. Hope you find something to occupy yourself on a snowy evening.

It is snowing, but not all that much. Roads are starting to freeze up. So, in the meantime, I'm finally learning how to use Final Cut Express HD. :)

Well, I'm glad to report that on Saturday the temperature was warm enough and the winds calm enough to take a nice leisurely walk across Central Park and then down Madison Avenue to 57th Street. Today it was cold and brisk in town, but sunny!

I guess NC sent the storm out to sea instead :~)

Be careful if you have to get out and about, Joe.

G'night,

Cory
