Arrival at Cancun

Very ugly start to the morning. I woke up with a major sinus headache and nausea. Was wondering if I was getting sick or something. I just did not want to crawl out of bed. Managed to get my ibuprofen and some crackers then I crawled back into bed. An hour later I was a new man. :)

Turns out were two of only four people here so far. The rest of the group (about 100 from ljtourist's work place) arrives tomorrow. This was my first time through immigration and customs and happy to say it was uneventful. I meant to get some pesos at the airport, but forgot. Fortunately for tipping they take US$ as long as they are 1's or 5's. Lots of eye candy to see along the route from the airport to the hotel. ;) Traffic is a little scary (everyone just weaves in and out all over the place and no one beeps at anyone for it), but nothing to complain about.

The hotel is beautiful and excellent service. When we arrived they whisked our bags away, we were seated at our own desk, given a cool towel and some drinks while we registered. It was pretty amazing. Got to our room and we ended up with a "honeymoon" suite. ljtourist and I just looked at each other, shrugged our shoulders, and said, "whatever". :) Nice jacuzzi tub and the room is very nice. Within 2 minutes someone arrived to show us all the features of the room and then came luggage. so, just chilling for now and will get some dinner soon. All I've had today so far is Ginger Ale, graham crackers and a snickers bar. I will definitely be hungry later this evening. Until then, I'm enjoying the sound of the waves.

Here is a sample of the view from our hotel room, but links to the set I'll be adding to in flickr that has some photos of the room for now...

VERY COOL!

I'm proud of you. Speaking from personal experience, international travel can be somewhat anxiety inducing. I'm glad you're getting to see this part of the world. Now if you were just on the *other* coast of Mexico ;-)

Have fun, handsome.

Yep, you know what I'm talking about. ;) I'm glad it was trouble free getting into Mexico. It will make future international travel easier.

Yeah. Customs in Mexico is usually no big deal. FOr me it's more particular situations where I've been really sick before that are triggers. It would honestly probably be easier for me in some ways to just go some place new, but I love this place so much.

If you consider swimming in the ocean, swimming in the warm pool and sunbathing fun, then, yeah, I'm having fun. :)

Re: pool pics
It has been nice so far and it hasn't been 24 hours yet. :)

Hey Joe...
Try Los Almendros restaurant for authentic Yucatean food. I really liked it, especially the lime soup. It is downtown near the bullring and the VW dealership:

And yes, the snorkeling is great! Have fun!

You mentioned the bullring. That's the one thing that I didn't enjoy about my trip to Cancun way back when. The bullfight was just a bit over the top. I wasn't quite prepared for the impending doom of bull.

I second the recommendation on the snorkeling. :)

Yeah, I heard the events at the bullring are pretty graphic. Not for me...

Yes, I've never been in an all inclusive resort before. This is nice. All the food and booze we want to eat.

Yay for 2nd week of time off. :) It's been nice so far. Kind of cloudy today, but still warm.

Did you work out your issues with your iPod?

I love the infinity pool! I would soak in it for infinity and watch the water stretch out into the horizon.

That pool has been nice. It's actually warmer than the ocean and it's saline based--sweet. I'll get some more pictures Friday (we go traveling tomorrow).

I always thought that saline pools were salty like the ocean. Until someone explained to me that it was more like contact lens solution. That is so cool. I would swim in that.

I found that the driving in Mexico City was good preparation for Boston :)

Glad that your body settled down quickly & that the trip is off to such a lovely start! Ah, the eye candy, I do remember that.

Yeah, the driving, that was interesting, but not really scary. I was more amazed by how people kept cutting other people off and it was no big deal.

Oh, yeah, plenty of eye candy. Lots of hairy men. ;)

Some day, I'll have to post some photos of los papis de México y de Costa Rica :)

And seriously, Boston's driving, with the complete disregard for lanes or rules that apply everywhere else I've driven in the US & Canada remind me more of Mexico City than anything else.

Oh, yeah, my friend here, ljtourist thinks you're cute and hot because you also wear a kilt. ;)

*grin* Thanks, ljtourist!

I'll have to see a photo of him, but if he's half as cute as you, I'd be in trouble around either of you, let alone both...

I still have to mail your keys. Now that it's spring break, I'll begin to be human again...

Hi! You're very welcome. A cute guy wearing a kilt and a very serious-looking jockstrap will get my attention right quick. 8-)

I don't have any photo usericons, but my pics are available via my journal. Do give me a ring if you're ever out this way. Have a good day!

Thanks! Very nice :) And I will be out there almost certainly next spring for a conference, & when that happens, I'm hoping to take some extra time in the Seattle area & the NW in general.
