PS3 feedback?

Without a doubt, a PS3 is in my immediate future. Thanks to davegrrr who pointed me to the Wikipedia entry on the PS3 which really helped me understand the various models out there. Maybe it was also coryblank that encouraged me here, but I won't put that blame on him. ;) My first experience with the PS3 was through bigredlug when he used to live here in NC.

I'm really looking forward to GT5 Prologue coming out and there is one other game I'm interested in. Driving is my thing here and will likely dominate all other games I have.

Anyway, I think I've selected the best system for what I need, but wanted to check for any catches I might be missing. Amazon has a PS3 40GB unit for $400. My plans for the PS3 are to use it for gaming and playing DVD's/Blu-ray discs only. I know the 40GB unit will not play PS2 games and will keep my old PS2 console for now (I have plenty of inputs into my system for that). I don't plan on using any other multimedia features as my apple TV takes care of that.

Anything else I should consider before guying this? Other essential accessories? The $400 price tag appears to be a great price for this unit, agreed?

Agreed. They have actually stopped producing the 80GB that was backwards compatible for now. I don't have a PS2 but would have loved that large library of games to chose from. The 40GB is still wicked! The games look awesome and the Blu-ray movies are spectacular! My unit was $399.99 at Target. You won't see it much cheaper, even online. You'll want another controller if you'll be playing with company (or have them bring their own) and maybe the BlueTooth remote for watching movies. It's easier than using the controller. Good luck!

Happy Easter, Joe!

P.S. Once you've created your account, add me to your friends list. I'm coryblank there, too!

Good point--I did not even think to try locally for the price and availability. Just checked and Circuit City, Target and Best Buy are all selling for $399, so that price is definitely competitive. Hmmm, the joys of instant gratification. :) I may still go through Amazon to save myself the $26 NC sales tax.

If you have the inclination to do so, it's a solid purchase. My boyfriend recently purchased one and he really likes his (which means a lot, as he had never been a console gamer prior to that).

Personally, since there's so little PS3 exclusivity anymore I won't be able to rationalize the purchase for myself for another few years, but if you don't have a Blu-Ray player that alone makes it a sensible investment.

I've enjoyed mine so far. I even bought a second game last week for it! I was a tad grumpy about the PS2 games, but I wasn't really playing them even before the purchase, so overall that was a wash for me.

You have a PS3? I thought you were just a Wii person. :)

I'm not a big gamer and I have less than 5 games total right now. I have not played my driving games as much because I just don't have the right equipment, but I'm working on that too.

I have a Wii as well. The ps3 is mostly my blu-ray player so far. Both systems provide different games and gaming experiences for me, with what I have for them.
