Grandpa dies at 94

Mom called me awhile ago to tell me that Grandpa died last night in the hospital at about 11:00pm. Yesterday he was very clear he was ready to die and wanted Hospice and we complied. He asked last night for a minister which sounds like he knew that was it. None of my family was there when this happened. It's been so many ears since I lost a family member (Grandma and Grandpa on my Mom's side died about 20 years ago) that I'm sort of at a loss of what to do now, but I know it will come to be eventually. I don't know how Grandma is right now. All I can think about is giving Grandpa a big hug right now...

One of the greatest things he did for me was get me my first weather station. It was a Heathkit weather station that included indoor/outdoor temperature, wind gauge, barometer and wind direction. Heathkit was one of those companies where you order electronic projects kits and build them yourself. I'm not sure where that weather station is now (I think Mom and Dad have it). He got it for me when I was about 14 I think. It was the perfect gift. It was geeky, electronic and all about meteorology.

How fitting for him to die on the evening before Hannah hits. I'm here in my kitchen watching the weather rage on outside watching my home weather station online as the wind gauge bounces all over the place and the rain gauge keeps ticking upwards (almost 4" now).

Joe - It sounds like you and he shared a great bond, and that he "knew" you very well.

My guess is that he's watching both you and Hannah now.

Take care my friend.

Big, big hugs to you, Joe. What a wonderful gift he gave to you, and what a wonderful life he led. Hope there's time to celebrate that along with the mourning ahead.
