So, first, of all, the trip out here went OK. Mechanical delay out of RDU, but still had 45 minutes to make my connection in ATL. That plane was pretty nice with all sorts of entertainment features. Each seat had its own screen with music, satellite TV, games and flight information. Unfortunately the entire system lost power at one point and had to reboot. The cool part is they all run Linux! They were all booting their own Linux kernel, so apparently each seat has its own host that boots up diskless clients--pretty cool. Of course, all of those kernel messages were confusing everyone else.

Got to SFO at a decent time only to find out that my bag was missing. With all of the flying I have done for years, this was a first. Turns out a lot of bags got mishandled back in ATL. I just got off the phone with Delta and delivery service. They found the bag and it will be delivered here late tonight around 11:30pm.

Already had a great time this evening catching up with pharmbear and just got off the phone with coryblank as we lay out our plans for this weekend. The weather here is so different from back home. Those low clouds and moisture rolling in off the ocean and bay and covering the hills like puffy blankets is pretty cool and hope to capture more of those moments.

Only thing planned for tomorrow is Alcatraz tour which I'm told is really good. Otherwise, nothing else is planned. I won't be able to see coryblank until Saturday morning, but we're both looking forward to that. :)

Hope you have a great time in San Fran bud.

pharmbear even asked about you last night and what I thought about you. ;)

Oh well now I'm on pins and needles. I hope you have a good report. Or at least lied! LOL

You needn't worry. I just told him what a nice guy you were and you tend to have mood swings between being serious and just a big ol' goofy and loving bear.

Accurate, no?

Are those really mood swings though? I don't think I'm moody! LOL

Moody might be too strong a word and I certainly won't claim that I know you all that well. It would just strike sometimes you would be very serious at times. Two minutes later I would hear this roaring laughter and I'm wondering what I just missed.

You probably just need to smile more when you're serious. :)

Well that's just because the voices in my head were telling me something funny, or mikiedoggie was saying something that didn't make any sense at all! LOL

It's been a while, but last time I went to Alcatraz, I enjoyed it very much. If they still have the self-audio tour, I recommend it. Have a great trip.

They still have the tour and that's on there as well. I guess it's like a two-part thing? One guided and one self-audio?

Turns out a lot of bags got mishandled back in ATL.

Sounds familiar. Remember how my bags to Johannesburg were sent to Paris instead?

Yep, that was pretty messed up. Our flight did get in late to ATL, but 45 minutes is plenty of time to transfer bags.

The most egregious example of my bags being mishandled was the Tel Aviv-Paris flight in 1985. One bag got off the plane with me, the other went on to NYC and SFO and back, eventually arriving at my Paris hotel 3 days later, crossing the Atlantic twice without me. With the original "Tel Aviv-Paris" routing sticker still on it.

I guess they had no explanation for that, huh?
Oct. 3rd, 2008 11:51 pm (UTC)
Nope. "It just didn't get off the plane."

And that being my third flight ever, I hadn't yet figured out to pack some clean clothing in each bag. Want to guess which of my two checked bags virtually all my clean clothing was in? :/

I've been to San Francisco quite a few times, but only did Alcatraz once, about 18 years ago - it was very interesting indeed. I don't know if you've seen that Clint Eastwood movie, "Escape from Alcatraz" - that was going through my mind as I wandered around the place.

I did see Escape from Alcatraz and I think the other one was The Rock where some terrorists staged nuclear weapons there? I'm sure some familiar scenes will come to mind.

Have a great time with Cory - he's an A+ guy.
