Kitchen work resumes

After a full day of recovering and still feeling OK this morning, I decided to resume the work on the kitchen this morning. I still had to deal with the water damage from the weeks before and wanted to try and level things out better before the countertops came in sometime this week. Bottom line is that I had to get underneath that cabinet to understand what damage was done. Once those new countertops are in, that cabinet cannot move for a very long time without paying a very hefty price.

So, this is how things looked as soon as I got the countertops removed. At this point I have resolved that I was not going to put this back together again anytime soon and will probably leave it this way until the new countertops come.

After a quick trip to Lowe's to make sure I have all of the critical pieces of plumbing I will need top put things together, I finally slice the plumbing and remove the cabinet to find this.

Yep, that's serious mold and mildew. This is why I had to do this. So, I finally cap off the plumbing and I was successful with no leaks (so far).

Finally I was confused about this and figure this needs to go into the WTF category...

This is the electrical feed for my dishwasher. Why on earth did they install a switch in-line that you can only get to when you remove the dishwasher (and it's already on an isolated circuit)? I don't know if this even follows code. Just bizarre.

OK, done for the day. I have full water service 1/2 kitchen right now which is not too bad. I've sprayed some mold treatment for now and will clean up the mess tomorrow evening after work (if not sooner). Then work on leveling the cabinets. After that I put it back together and hope countertops come very soon to restore kitchen function.

Wow - that's quite a project you're got going there.

The biggest thing I've done with my place is replace the 'guts' of a toilet... :-)

Oh, yeah, done that. Not just the guts of the toilet, but the main gasket under the toilet. Fun and stinky stuff.

Yeah, instead of us getting paid to fix thing in IT, we could get paid to destroy things. I'm very good at destroying things.

This butch is tired and hoping the worst part of this work is done. He won't be so butch when the new appliances and countertops come in. :)
