Kitchen update, drywall repair

All those holes I had before?

DSC_0095 DSC_0094

They're all gone now...

drywall

Thanks to parts from Lowe's and the DIY Network website, they had the exact tools I needed and gave me the idea of how to fix the holes with strength. I used a piece of wood behind the wall overlapping the hole, screwed that into the existing drywall, then placed a piece of drywall that fit in the hole and then attached it to the wood making for a very strong patch. A little mud and that wall is solid.

No painting to do on these right now. The patches between the cabinets will be covered up by the cabinet and the new microwave. The area below the cabinet will have a backsplash soon.

Tomorrow evening my brother and I rip out the old countertops permanently in preparation for the new ones coming in Wednesday afternoon. So, kitchen will pretty much be a disaster from 5pm tomorrow until 5pm the next day. That will be a huge change.

I also used an interesting set of metal clips, which accomplish the same task. I can recommend them for larger patches. I'll try to get the name of them when I go back to the Lansing house.

Looks good.

I'm pleased with my results, but it could have been better. I fiddled with the mud too much. I just need to slap it on there, fill in the gaps and then scrape/smooth it one time and not 10 times. At least I don't have to finish this part off with the backsplash coming soon.

I don't know about that. May take awhile to get everything sorted out by the evening. I'm still a little unsure how much plumbing they are going to do to get things working again.
