Fuck The UPS Store

Been on an eBay selling spree lately getting rid of all kinds of useful and somewhat valuable stuff. Most of it ended/sold last night and made a few hundred bucks on finding these items new homes. One of the items was for two, very small monitors (9"). I had them up there for $7/each as a minimum bid and the both sold for $25/each!

Was going to pack them up last night when I realized I did not have a large enough box and packing material to ship them to Florida. So, I just decided to stop by The UPS Store as it's on the way to work and pay the few extra dollars to have them pack it (normally I pack and drop-off directly at the main customer center/hub in Chapel Hill).

What was supposed to just cost $11 in shipping came out to $36! That is fucking insane! It was $17 for the shipping, $7 for the cardboard box and $10 for the packing materials. I was in a jam and in a rush to just get this out the door so I did not have to worry about it with a full day of work ahead of me (and my auction promised to send stuff out within 1 business day).

I was just pissed off the entire way to work about what I just paid. I feel like an idiot for paying it. I should have picked up my monitors and just walked right out the door. Part of me just didn't want to be a difficult customer. Well, it cost me this time.

Lesson learned. Sent a nasty note via the UPS site regarding this ripoff and promised to never use their UPS Store again and hope others here do the same.

Perhaps it would have been best to carry the monitors back home and ship them the next day after geting boxes at a reasonable price. You could just explain the situation to the buyers in an email and let them know there would have been a delay of a day. Most people would understand and be fine with it I would think. I figure you have a good enough rating on ebay that even if you got dinged with a bad response it wouldn't hurt anything overall.

Always best to walk into a store with items boxed and ready to go methinks (as I sure you did too).

The last time I went to the UPS store because I sold something on eBay the same thing happened to me. I ended up cutting my profit almost in half, just to ship the thing. Next time I'm going to Wal-Mart to get packing stuff and then the USPS. :)
