Earrings and men

Is there any correlation to ear jewelery worn by straight vs. gay guys? The number of earrings? Type of earrings? Total combined weight?

I don't wear such ornaments (just not my thing), but have wondered if there was some connection there, or if it's completely irrelevant. I've made some assumptions in the past only to be proven wrong.

I'm more interested to know if there's a correlation between male sexual preference and the use of cock rings.

I don't think there is so much for simple hoops. I love playing with my earring more than I think about it as an adornment. Now, if you had a lovely pair of pearl earrings with a unicorn on them, I would tend to think maybe a bit flaming.

Now, giant nipple rings on guys I still think of as kinda gay, but maybe I haven't yet caught up with the crazy kids of today.

With all these metrosexuals now, your guess is as good as any.

And I was about to drill a hole in my right ear today... Gay?

I thought that left ear was straight, right ear was gay. At least that's what one of my co-workers (left pierced) says...

Both means you're bi?

Nipple piercings? Way back in the 90's, before they were common, I had a bf with both nipples pierced. He told me that if you only had one nipple piercing, depending on what side it was on, equated to top or bottom. I can't remember now which was which....

Left top, right bottom. See also hanky code.

in my case it was coincidental -- the ring was hidden under the pocket of my uniform at that time - dress shirt

When I was a younger man "left is straight & right is gay" got wedged in my brain with respect to men wearing ear bling.

20 or so years later I don't find that to be terribly accurate. Many of the subtle clues that once meant one thing or another seem to have been taken over by the "mainstream" or mean something totally different.

My ex has those & is a tenured professor, probably soon to be department chair.

Of course, the department where I did grad school now has a senior professor whose hair is usually dyed pink or green or something else comparably outrageous.

oh, no offense taken at all! I actually don't like his huge piercing... but he likes it, & I figure that's all that matters.

I think -- read: I have no statistical basis -- that more men who are our age (jeebus) and are gay want to have piercings and are willing to do it, while among the younger crowd, it is more ambiguous. That's just my feeling. Personally, I like the weight, more than the look.

One thing I don't care for is the '80s look of having only one ear pierced.

I trust you can forgive me...

No, I'm sorry. We're going to have to take you out and get penalty piercings. At least two in each ear, and one eyebrow (which is ever so sexy) and maybe a septum. We can talk about the nether-regions (not if, but what). Oh, and a trachus piercing. And a tattoo that I get to pick off the wall at some mean parlor in the heart of Boston.

This sounds suspiciously like you & kev_bot have already got this planned out in meticulous detail.

Not that I'm objecting...

20 years ago - it used to be
left = straight
right = gay

unless you were from Europe in which case
right = straight
left = gay

eventually no one really cared which ear(s)

You're getting a good taste of all the different answers that add up to the message that if there ever was a clear set of rules, there isn't any more. Since at least one of those mentioned suggests that I'm straight. :)
