Beef stew success

I had the timer setup to run it today so I have a home cooked meal to return to. When I pulled into the garage I noticed an odor that just seemed odd. Then I realized it was just food cooking in my home! It was a little freaky. Damn, it has been awhile.

Here's what my recipe was...

  • 3 pounds of beef cuts
  • 3 carrots in 1" chunks
  • 3 russet potatoes in 1" chunks
  • 1 stalk of celery, diced
  • 1 packet of McCormick seasoning for beef stew (slow cook version)
  • 1 1/3 cups water

8 hours in the crock pot on low and it came out great! I have food for a week right now. I should probably freeze some of it. Next time I'll consider adding green beans and onions for more flavor. Best of all? This was so damn easy. The meat pretty much melted in your mouth.

Brian made a beef stew a couple of months ago. He used a dark ale & water for the cooking liquid. It sounds odd, but it really added wonderful flavor to the simmering liquid...

I know that's what they are designed for, but I'm always afraid to leave a slow cooker on while I'm gone.

Glad it turned out well and I'm sorry there is no smell-o-vision.
