You know you're in for a change in the weather when the National Weather Service keeps issuing special weather statements almost twice a day. What's the big deal?

Starting today our high temperatures will be around 35°F(+1°C) with lows around 20°F(-4°C). This pattern is expected to persist for 7-14 days. We expect some days where we won't even get above freezing. We do have a few isolated days where we don't get above freezing during all of winter, but not potentially several days in a row. Going to be very dry as well which is a complete change from last month (almost 7" of rain for December).

Amazingly, we don't anticipate to set any record lows.

Tom quoted some news source as having said this has so far been the coldest winter on record. What? This has been fairly mild in comparison with winters past, fromy recollection.

And of course its gonna be sunny every day, so no chance of snow :( Its so unfair that all the people who actually get snow just bitch about it while people like me who love snow never see it.

The forecast has been fluctuating a bit on that. Snow showers keep popping up here and there, but nothing all that significant. It's those damn Appalachian mountains that create a unique micro climate around here. Also, when we get such cold arctic blasts like this, it's usually always dry air. Any moisture that might be part of those blasts gets dried out even more by the mountains.

We do see snow though! Were you around for the January 2000 storm when we (triangle area) got 20"? That was amazing.

Yeah, I remember that 200 snow storm because my brother used to live in Raleigh, but you know how much snow that storm dropped on Charlotte? Nothing at all, I remember being pissed because we got nothing here at all. I think we might have gotten a semi decent snow here in the 02/03 winter, but aside from that this entire last decade the only snow we got was lucky to be in inch and it melted the same day.
