Running on empty

See, bfebear? I really was running low on gas! Sorry I was late for lunch. For those that can't read it, the computer said I had 2 miles left. I don't think I've ever run it this low before.

I hear running it that low is REALLY bad for your engine...

Yes, it can be bad. If the engine gets starved of fuel, then it does start stressing some components out, but no real damage. I don't normally run it this close. These engines can sense a misfire in a fraction of a second and lights up the "check engine" light if that happens. No light and car was still running fine.

Regardless, it's not something I want to make a habit of.

lol - I never doubted you for a minute. For me, the "ding" of the warning bell is often lost in the "dings" of the engine startup, and I forget that I need gas. On more than one occasion, my MTE has gotten to zero. The furthest I've limped along after it showed zero is 6 miles before I found a gas station - and I wasn't sure I was going to survive the anxiety each mile I drove.
