Password entropy checker

In light of recent hacking of my eBay account, I found this interesting site that analyzes the entropy of your password on the fly. It's sets the bar a bit high for securing simple accounts like email and such.

Yep, I agree. For a major system it's a good idea. Too complicated for a simple email or web account. That's why the author suggests to at least keep it better than the "very weak" category.

The old password I was using on eBay was pretty "very weak". However, you can easily get the entropy up very quickly by typing more characters (like typing a short sentence) if the system will allow a password that long.

It highlights again that faster and cheaper computers keep making password cracking that much easier.

I'm not going to use a password that's like 20 characters long only to have it consider it "strong"!

Again, a "weak" password is quite suitable for simple accounts. It would not be suitable for a system that contains thousands of social security numbers. :)
