Find music you like

Sid was all about this (and still is today)...

http://www.pandora.com

I briefly tried it yesterday. It asks you to select your favorite artist and then starts to select other music similar to that and stream it to you directly. You can then answer other questions to help it fine tune what you want and don't want to listen to. Seems to take a fairly detailed assessment of all of the music types and patterns.

Haven't had a chance to test it further yet, but curious what other think.

I played with it for a few days a month or two ago. And I looked at pandora, too... ;)

Pretty nifty. Frustrating that you can't just pick a song and listen to it, but definitely some interesting categorization going on. I found a few bands similar to some things I already knew I liked. Cool, but definitely wouldn't use it full time.

XM, on the other hand... :)

I used Pandora.com the other day as well at the suggestion of bantuathach. It's ok, but not as fun as Yahoo LaunchCast Plus.

Both Launchcast Plus and Pandora are $36/year -- but with Yahoo you get unlimited song-skipping which you do not get with Pandora. (There is a limit on song-skipping in the Yahoo free version however and lower sound quality).

But Launchcast Plus works essentially the same way -- you build a station (or stations) based on song ratings and it suggests other songs for you -- it is based on a simple genre picklist and other users' preferences rather than the more scientific approach on Pandora, but it seems about as effective at choosing things I like.

I recommend it highly.
