Duke Lacrosse article on 60 minutes

So, I watched 60 Minutes this evening as they had a story on the Duke Lacrosse rape allegations. I was quite surprised as to their findings so far. It casts a a lot of doubt on how D.A. Nifong has been running this case.

First, of all, I'm very surprised to hear that the DA has not interviewed any of the players that were charged. They appear to have a lot of evidence that proves their innocence, but the DA does not want to hear any of it.

The comments from the victim's friend who was there (Kim?) refutes a lot of what her friend says happened. At the same time Kim is being sort of sly on camera. It almost feels like she's been bought out or something. She kept stating that "I don't recall that" instead of saying, "That is not true". It's just odd.

Regardless, it just looks like this whole case is riddled with all sorts of holes consisting of errors, incompetence and lies. Still puzzled as to why we're hearing this from 60 Minutes instead of the local media. There are a lot of unanswered questions. From the beginning when the accusations came out I told myself that these men had better be unmistakably guilty or the DA risks really making himself out to be an ass and dividing the community.

The DA has been pandering to the community from the beginning. This thing has had absolutely nothing to do with actually obtaining convictions or getting justice and everything to do with grandstanding.

Yep. Seems like everyone is playing the race card again. I think he's too much of a coward to tell the public that race has nothing to do with this. Several Duke faculty and staff were outspoken on this issue when the story first broke. They were morons for the claims they were making with absolutely nothing to back it up other than wild assumptions. The President of Duke also spoke on that issue. Hope his administration smacked them up against the head a few times and told them to shut it.

I certainly don't plan voting for Nifong again at this point, but the others look like idiots too. Suppose I'll have to vote for the lesser of two evils again. :(

I had heard some of this a couple of months ago on NPR, I believe. It was a good piece and certainly more detailed since they had the interviews with many of the key players. It doesn't surprise me in what happened being the confluence of an election year stunt with a seemingly false rape charge. Sigh.

There's actually an article on this being run by the local NPR affiliate this morning. Have not heard it yet. Will send out the podcast info when it's available in a separate post.
