Woo-hoo... power's back on. I assume yours is too! Came back shortly before 1pm. Yup, that was quite a windstorm and, thinking the power outage was confined to the Crooked Creek area, I foolishly ventured out onto Fayetteville road and got caught in a mess of traffic swirling around the 1:40 SPUI. Be glad you stayed home! Coffee this evening?

Power came back on at 1230 as I was driving to grocery store. No coffee night tonight due to family hosting this evening.

This is why I run my laptop on battery and have the wireless base station, firewall, and cable modem all on a biiig UPS. It's got about 90-120 minutes of life, depending on how much else the laptop's doing and whether I shut down the nonessential other hardware (desktop computer, monitor on the firewall Sun, and printer).

Of course, with a similar setup when I lived in Massachusetts, the cable company's UPSen had no more than an hour of battery life, so no matter how much planning and infrastructure you throw at your end, you're still dependent on your network provider doing the right thing....
