On the train

Thanks to dan4behr for getting me to the train station on time. It's been so long I forgot how nice it can be. Much more relaxed than flying. You just get on the train and go. Been cool watching the country side (well, not everywhere). It's interesting to see a lot of old telephone/telegraph poles along the way to some history there. Business class is comfy too with some personalized service.

Just left Petersburg about 10 minutes ago and should be in DC within 2 hours. Ran into labrown and chatted with him and his coworker form Duke about IT stuff (I know, shocking). I want to know more about the type of railroad signs and signals that are used. What does that silly "W" mean?

Might post later on tonight. Plan to do some sightseeing tomorrow. Enough for now from the Amtrak Carolinian. Loving having Internet access while on the train. :)

What are you planning to see while you're there? I'm a bit disappointed that the American History museum is closed for two years. It's got an awesome IT throughout the ages exhibit in the basement that I love to see, going from ENIAC to my T81 that I had in high school.

I don't know yet and open to suggestions. Was thinking Smithsonian, Washington monument (still haven't been there) and I always feel obligated to visit Arlington cemetery. So, I need to make up my mind soon and get some plan down.

Wow, I'd chatted with him ages ago about the UUChurch in Hillsborough. Small world! I should probably talk to him about it again. lol

There's a UU in Hillborough? Tell me more. I used to go to the one in Chapel Hill, but it's a bit far and the minister I really liked recently retired.

Yeah, there's one on NC 10, right at the intersection with Lawrence Road. Let me know when you'd like to go check it out and I'll tag along with you. :-) Even though I'd talked to Lance about it, I was too chicken to go rolling up in there solo.
