Was a nice day..., until I got sideswiped!

While doing some errands and leaving Lowe's, I pulled up to the intersection in the right most lane of a double left turn lane. As I came up to the line a Camry in the left lane decided way too late that she wanted to make a right turn. She plowed right in my side and scraped it up. I stopped immediately, but she kept moving forward. There was no way to avoid here as I almost stopped anyway.

We pulled over to the side and assessed the damage. Looks to be completely cosmetic right now, but not 100% sure. She gets out and she's freaked out and apologizing. She explained she was new to the area AND NEW TO DRIVING! Wonderful. She had her 2 kids in the car and they were fine. It was actually one of her kids that told her to turn right at the last minute.

I have no paper whatsoever, so I just read out her driver's license on record it on the cell phone along with her tag number and other bits of info. We exchanged phone numbers and she said she would call me with her insurance information. She's here in the US on some kind of temporary permit or something--was not sure what she was showing me. She did have a valid NC drivers' license though.

So, now I have to go get estimates on this damage. I'm not going back to Performance BMW as their work sucked the last time I did something there. I have one in mind and will check them out tomorrow. Just something else to do in my busy life. :(

Wow, Joe. That absolutely sucks. I hate it when my car gets damaged - I've been lucky since I moved to NC that I haven't had to have any body work done to my car. I was lucky when i lived in SC that I found an amazing independent guy doing bodywork who really gave a sh*t and was wonderful. I'd be interested to learn about who you get recommeneded to you and see how you like them. If I hear of anyone I can pass that along.
Interesting to hear about your experiences at Performance. That they were so bad to deal with was the reason I kept my Subaru for a year and got rid of it (but that was thier service, not bodyshops)...
Good Vibes!

Joe, by the way, the lady in the Camry... did she have a strong Middle Eastern accent and was the Camry a black late 90's model (like Paul's?)
The reason I ask is that a thickly accented woman in a black Camry was trying to ask me for directions at a light near 15-501 & MLK on Thursday night. She seemed pretty confused on how to get around....

Very sorry to hear that this happened, though I'm relieved that you weren't hurt (nor was anyone in her car).
